The View of Nature in All Climates

View of Nature in all climates

Created by James Reynolds and engraved by John Emslie, is a remarkable work from the mid-19th century that offers a comprehensive and vivid depiction of the natural world from the equator to the Arctic Circle. Published by James Reynolds in the mid 18th centuary as a fold out diagram, they probably didnt expect it to adorn the walls of peoples homes nearly 200 years later!

The illustration shows how the sun's rays affect plants and animals in different climates, from the equator to the Arctic Circle. The print includes a triangle with an analemma to show the sun's position each day of the year. This helps explain changes in climate and their effects on life. The diagram also has texts about climate, health, and the distribution of plants and animals. Emslie and Reynolds' work likely served as a useful reference for natural historians and scientists of the time .
